Soft Launching Summer

As final exams come to an end, many students find themselves in a transitional period, often receiving texts such as, “when are you leaving?” With the academic year wrapping up, the shift into summer doesn’t need to be abrupt. Instead, students can begin the season with a “soft launch,” incorporating slower mornings, refreshed routines, and a more intentional mindset.

Skincare Over Stress

Following a semester of late-night study sessions, inconsistent sleep and excessive caffeine, many of us are looking to simplify skincare routines. Summer is an ideal time to prioritize breathable products and minimalist practices that encourage skin recovery and hydration.

For example:

  • Choosing lightweight SPFs that also enhances radiance.

  • Replacing full-coverage foundation with skin tints.

  • Using hydrating facial mists during breaks.

Rather than pursuing intensive, multi-step routines, focus on essential products that support well-being.

Morning Routines Without Alarms

Without the pressure of early classes, summer mornings provide an opportunity to slow down. Romanticizing daily habits, such as preparing coffee, enjoying quiet time, or taking a walk, can support mental clarity and relaxation.

For example:

  • Listening to calming music while getting ready.

  • Drinking a full cup of coffee or tea without multitasking.

  • Reducing screen time in the morning.

  • Accepting and embracing rest without guilt.

Even brief moments of calm can feel restorative when we are uninterrupted and intentional.

Small Resets

Transitioning into summer can also include minor lifestyle resets. These changes do not require major effort but can significantly impact one’s sense of clarity and comfort.

For example:

  • Cleaning out a makeup bag to eliminate unused products.

  • Washing pillowcases and linens to refresh sleeping spaces.

  • Organizing digital devices, such as deleting old screenshots or lecture slides.

  • Updating playlists or rearranging study spaces into calm environments.

These simple steps can help leave behind the mental and physical clutter accumulated over the semester.

Rather than striving for external transformation or high productivity, let’s approach summer with an "ease-first" mentality. This may involve setting boundaries, protecting rest, and reconnecting with personal interests. Prioritizing emotional clarity over constant engagement allows for a more restorative and authentic break.

Summer does not need to be defined by drastic change. It can instead be a season marked by slower rhythms, intentional choices, and meaningful self-care—carried out one small moment, reset, or breath at a time.

Wishing you a restful and recharging summer break — from all of us at ED2010!
