The Summer I Turned Pretty Comes to an End, Here’s What Happens Next

After being the number one streamed show on Amazon’s Prime Video all of this summer, The Summer I Turned Pretty has reached its end after a three-season run. As summer days run out and the series wraps up, we say goodbye to Cousins Beach (for now, at least), so let’s talk about why saying goodbye feels harder than expected.

What Fans Loved About The Summer I Turned Pretty 

No Lack of Emotion

The show had no end to the depth of emotions in its three seasons. Awkward first crushes and loves, the longing and arguments between what is right and what you want created intense emotional situations that many viewers resonated with. 

Attention to Detail

The multiple Taylor Swift songs, the intentionally chosen throwback seasons, and Easter eggs made for some of the many subtle details that so expertly told this story. Rewatching from the very beginning, you can see exact moments that are shaping the future of the narrative.

The Finale

With the recent dropping of the finale to the favorite summer show, a resolution was finally reached. After three seasons of Belly tearing herself in half between her head and her heart, she came to a conclusion. So, I apologize to any Team Jeremiah fans, but Team Conrad won this competition.

This finale was not just about wrapping up possibly the messiest love triangle of all time, but rather about emphasizing how much growth Belly underwent during her time in Paris. The ending acknowledged the importance of prioritizing yourself before committing to a partner. 

Following the conclusion to the series, author Jenny Han announced that summer was not officially over, but that instead of another season fans could expect a movie to continue the storyline. This decision seems to differentiate this as a new chapter in Belly’s life, leaving behind the Belly we all have come to know. 

Final Thoughts 

Summer might be over, but we are FAR from forgetting about our Cousins family. Whether it’s the nostalgia for the last three years or curiosity about the next chapter to come, The Summer I Turned Pretty will not be fading into the background. Until next summer (or whenever we meet Belly in this new timeline), at least there are three seasons of memories to fall back on.
