The sun is out, temperatures are rising and the Pickle’s Tap Room patio has made a return. What does that mean? Bar crawl season is back in State College!
Before you make your way to the bars, it is good to learn about the origins of these events.
Bar crawls, also known as pub crawls, have an origin in the UK. It started as a social gathering, going to multiple bars in one night. Not much has changed to it. Crawls became more widely known in the United States in the 1980s and 90s, and are now worldwide.
The Penn State bars have always been a large part of the culture, but in 2017 the introduction of Lineleap would make bar crawls a definite tradition for the university.
Starting at Champs Downtown in fall of that year, the app slowly dispersed across downtown bars. Covers became easy to pay, long lines could be skipped through, and it became a staple to a fun girls night out or 21st birthday celebration.
Since its origins, the app has had over one million users and covers over 120 cities and college towns.
“LineLeap is obsessed with perfecting the nightlife experience,” Lineleap states on its website. “The perfect night is hassle free. It's effortlessly convenient. It's fun, faster. That's why we spend every day designing products to create an amazing experience for our nightlife customers and venue owners.”
The company seems to have held up on these things, introducing a variety of bar crawls to the State College area, including the newest of the bunch, the Banana Bar Crawl. The next LineLeap crawl is the traditional End of Year Crawl, occurring on April 12th. Information about the crawl and participating bars is available here and on the app.
When attending this year’s upcoming crawls, remember to be safe, eat beforehand, stay hydrated and party hard. Happy drinking!
