By Katherine Schreiner

When moving to a new town, people will explore, looking for new spots to go to. Some may look for breakfast spots, or some may look for new restaurants for their family have dinner at. Then there are the coffee lovers, that just want to find where their next cup will be from. As a college town, State College provides many cafés for students and residents, which provide places to study, great coffee, as well as some out-of-the-box food options. Presenting: State College (Coffee Lovers’ Edition)

Irving’s

Location: 110 E College Ave

Recommendation: Caramel Latte

While known for their bagels and cream cheese, Irving’s also has a diverse drink menu. From smoothies to chais, Irving’s provides many options for its consumers. Just like any coffee shop, the workers at Irving’s are well versed in using an espresso machine, providing hot and iced drinks that compliment the rest of the menu with ease.

Sower’s Harvest Café

Location: 421 E Beaver Ave

Recommendation: Iced Mocha with Maple Syrup

On the more formal side, Sower’s provides many different options for coffee lovers. With a variety of syrup and milk options, consumers can mix and match to make their cup of coffee perfect for their taste. Sower’s is also known for its breakfast and lunch menus, which present options for even the pickiest of eaters. Being hidden further into downtown, Sower’s is a great option for someone who may not want to wait in line for the more popular breakfast spots.

Vibe Coffee Co.

Location: 401 W Beaver Ave

Recommendation: Townie Batter Cold Brew

If you are looking for some speciality drinks you won’t find anywhere else, Vibe Coffee is the place for you. Located at The Graduate, Vibe Coffee has a large list of speciality coffee, including Grilled Stickies, Mint Nittany, State S’mores, and other Penn State inspired drinks. While this coffee shop may lack a food menu, the shop itself is very comfortable, giving students cozy places to study.

Elixr Coffee Roasters

Location: 123 W Beaver Ave

Recommendation: Strawberry Oatmilk Latte

Elixr Coffee Roasters has a more basic coffee menu compared to the other options, but it shouldn’t be ignored. Elixr is a chain, with locations from Nashville to Philadelphia. The company’s claim to fame is their seasonal blends. They provide a wide range of blends that are available for purchase at all six of their locations. So even with a smaller menu, Elixr is sure to please a coffee lover’s palette.

Starbucks

Location: Multiple

Recommendation: Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso

In any college town, there is bound to be a Starbucks, and State College is no exception. With multiple locations throughout downtown, Starbucks has the hearts of Penn State students, usually crowded with studying undergrads. If you are looking for a safe option that you already know, Starbucks will always be there to fulfill your coffee needs.
